Game Changing Skincare Products
Let me start by being super open and honest—I have struggled like crazy with my skin throughout most of my life. High school was not a good time for my forehead. It was always difficult to deal with and I tried all sorts of products even prescriptions. Nothing ever worked and I would continuously give up and exclaim I would forever be someone without good skin. There were pockets of time that I thought I had a grasp on it but then things happen like moving to London where the water will dry your skin out so much that it might actually turn to sand. Through all that though, eventually over time (and of course getting out of the crazy hormonal teen years helps) I landed on a routine that worked perfectly for my skin type. It feels absolutely freeing to be at this point finally. I still have a pimple that wants to hang out from time to time for old time sakes but for the most part, I can feel confident that when I wake up, my skins going to still be looking fresh. So, I thought I would share the products that finally got my skin out of a rut in hopes to help others find their way out as well.
I can not say enough good things about this product. Aesop has created this soft and light face wash that leaves my skin feeling like it can breathe again. It also smells amazing! Just put a little in your hands, add water, lather up, and wash away. I've tried several other brands and this has by far beat the rest. Since I don't wear makeup (with the exception of mascara) I don't feel the need to wash my face every day. One major problem I've had in the past is drying my face out with products so the every other day routine allows for my natural oils to do their thing.
Another beloved face wash product for me is the OZ Naturals Facial Cleanser which I still use when we travel. It isn't as light feeling but the organic mixture leaves the same freshness.
After washing my face, I use Dermalogica's microfoliant. I know it says daily right on the bottle but this is part of my every other day routine as well. It isn't too harsh which is what I love most about it. One thing I have discovered is that I have pretty sensitive skin so these lighter products fit really well with my needs. You don't feel like you are scratching away your skin. I was introduced to this product by a makeup artist who was helping me for my wedding. I've been using it for 3 years now and can't go without it. You just pour a little in your hand, add a few drops of water, mix, and then apply to your face. I keep applying until it starts to feel creamy. It makes me feel like I definitely haven't missed a piece of dirt when I'm washing my face. It has helped get rid of those little dry flakes that, for me, tend to happen in the winter with all the dry air.
This is actually a relatively new product for me that I just recently introduced into my routine. It's become my number one game changer of all time though and I'm always recommending it to people now. My sister is the one who told me about this miracle worker after she found it helpful in her routine. We were both having the same problems with our skin reacting to the hard city water. I am forever grateful to her for showing me this. It's also another amazing smelling product—probably due to the rose petal. This witch hazel is used every day. I squirt a little on some cotton and apply all over my face. It cleans your pours and leaves you feeling refreshed. This product has helped so much with keeping my skin feeling hydrated. On days that I wash my face I'll use this as the third product in my routine but on the opposite days, this is up first.
This product has been in my routine the longest. It was recommended to me by my dermatologist in high school (so we are talking around 10 years) as a light easy on the skin moisturizer. I have tried several other products, even ones that are more organic (or have prettier packaging...because let's be real), but I keep coming back to this. I've stuck solid to this now for a few years without changing it up and I think I'm finally accepting its place in my life. This is always the last step in my routine after my face has absorbed the witch hazel, I apply a little bit of a more generous amount so that my face can slowly absorb it. My key here is to not rub it in completely. I get rid of any white patches but then I let my skin do what it does. I love that this Cetaphil moisturizer is not waxy. It just goes right into the skin, keeps it hydrated, and you feel like it's not there.
It is always important to recognize that what works for someone else might not necessarily work for you. That has been a battle of mine through out my skincare journey and I want anyone reading this to know that these products are not guaranteed to clear your skin or fix your problems. When we are dealing with helping out bodies, we have to understand that we are all different. Find what works best for your skin type, routine, and needs. Unless you are lucky, it takes a lot of trial and error. Trust me. But keep up the hard work and you will get to a sweet spot like I have. We each deserve to feel beautiful in our own lovable skin.
